On the heels of preparing the launch of its other important crossover, the Grand Cherokee, Chrysler officially took the covers off of the 2011 Dodge Durango this week.

Riding on an all-new unibody platform, rather than its predecessor’s truckish body-on-frame platform, the new Durango is hoped to keep the nameplate on the cutting edge of a heavily crowded segment.

Still boasting a roomy interior with three rows of seating, the big news is what’s under the hood. There’s the familiar 5.7-liter V8 that will deliver up to 7,800 pounds of towing capacity, and then there’s the new 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 that’s no slouch in the towing department either, rated at 6,200 pounds. All-wheel drive (in lieu of traditional four-wheel drive) will be offered with both units. Stay tuned for fuel economy figures as those have yet to be released.

Check out all the latest photos below and keep checking back for additional details. Ridgeland, SC used Campers says the 2011 Durango will arrive in showrooms later this year.
