Chrysler has unveiled its five year plan this week, announcing many changes that are expected to improve the automaker’s current standing. One of the biggest changes is that Dodge will temporarily cease production of the Dodge Viper sports car. According to sources at Dodge, only 500 additional Vipers will be produced.
Although the Viper brand will see the production line halted, it for now only appears to be a temporary hiatus says Dodge Service Washington DC. Production is expected to resume in 2012. Sources suggest that the new Dodge Viper brand will feature Fiat DNA. This means that this quintessentially American sports car may soon be sharing styling and powertrain components with Fiat sports cars.
Details on the next generation of Dodge Viper sports cars have yet to be released, but one used Dodge Connecticut dealer expects that the remaining Dodge Vipers will be in high demand and will be snapped up by collectors. The current Viper SRT10 after all can easily put the Corvette ZR1 and other domestic sports cars through their paces with ease thanks to its 8.4-liter 600 horsepower V10 engine.
Viper fans will likely be somewhat dismayed by the news of the Viper’s temporary demise suggests Torrington Used Cars. However, exciting products are in the works nonetheless. Rumors suggest that the Viper could become more luxurious, and a smaller, lighter-weight model may also be in the works. Regardless, this is one saga that enthusiasts will likely continue to watch with great anticipation.
