The Ram Hits the Road

Ready for a road trip this summer? The Ram 1500 pickup sure is. In fact, the auto experts at KBB.com just named the award-winning pickup to their list of 2010′s Top 10 Road Trip Vehicles. The decision was based on a wide range of criteria, including comfort, reliability, fuel economy and driving dynamics.

According to KBB.com editors, the Ram’s “HEMI V8 engine delivers a healthy 390 horsepower along with respectable highway fuel economy of 20 mpg, and the truck’s boldly styled sheetmetal might just turn a few heads when you roll into town.” NY Boat Dealers agree.

That’s just for starters, though. The website also gave kudos to the Ram’s new coil-over rear suspension—the only one in its class—which provides notably improved passenger comfort. And when it comes to passengers, remember that the Ram crew cab has plenty of room for six of them, even if they’re all adults.

This focus on enhanced “livability” is a new hallmark of today’s all-new Ram and the result of a fresh approach to the pickup market for Ram engineers. According to Fred Diaz, president and CEO of the Ram brand, ”We understand that truck owners spend a lot of time in their vehicles, whether getting to the jobsite, hauling livestock or towing their boat up to the cabin for the weekend. That’s why we designed the Ram 1500 to be the new truck segment benchmark for comfort and refinement.”

But that doesn’t mean the powerful pickup is any less Ram tough. In fact, its Gross Combined Weight Rating has actually been increased to a full 15,500 lbs., up 1,500 lbs. over the 2009 model. That’s the kind of thing that comes in handy if your road trip includes a trailer. Or if you want your truck to be named 2010 Tow Vehicle of the Year by Trailer Boats magazine, another honor picked up this year by the Ram 1500. Ram trucks have been just as popular on the pre-owned market, Used Trucks Dealer Seattle says.

In other words, if you need a pickup for your road trip, you better first make a trip to your local Ram dealership.
